VE75 Celebration ideas

Plans to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe on Friday 8 May have changed due to coronavirus. But there are still lots of ways you can get involved and show support in marking the day.

The government has announced a revised VE Day events programme: https://www.gov.uk/…/her-majesty-the-queen-to-send-a-messag… which includes a national toast at 3pm and an address from Her Majesty The Queen at 9pm.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has developed a new website https://ve-vjday75.gov.uk/get-involved/ that includes ideas for homemade VE Day bunting, original recipes, games, and educational and creative activities for children.

The Royal British Legion is inviting people across the UK to join a 2-minute silence at 11am on Friday 8 May www.rbl.org.uk/veday75

Broadstairs & St. Peter's Town Council is planning a virtual celebration https://www.facebook.com/events/2706966472917787/ .

Age UK Thanet Ltd is asking people to nominate a veteran or an unknown hero by calling 01843 223881 and donating £8 for them to receive a meal.

If you are organising a stay at home party, please be responsible, maintain social distancing and be considerate towards your neighbours.
