  • Headteacher Announcement

    Thu 26 May 2022

    Dear parents / carers

I have written numerous letters over the years but this one is without doubt the most difficult of them all.

Unfortunately, it is with deep regret that after 14 years at Drapers Mills Primary Academy, 6 years as headteacher, I will shortly be leaving - my last day will be on Friday 10th June.

I am deeply saddened to be leaving as I have had the most amazing experience in my time at the school. The children are amazing! Not a day goes by without them making me smile. It has been an absolute privilege to see how they develop in their time with us and it’s always lovely to see them return for visits once they move on to Secondary School. They have made an extremely challenging role an extremely rewarding one for me. They make me extremely proud and I know they will all go on to do great things.

To all of our Drapers Mills parents, I cannot thank you enough for the support and loyalty you have shown me over the years. The relationship we have built has allowed positive, constructive communication to take place between home and school which can only have enhanced the child’s school experience. Together we have enabled the children to be the best they can be and given them the opportunity to develop into young adults that our community will be proud of.

I have so many things to be grateful for - not many Headteachers have the experience of having an entire staff team that they love working with. They all work extremely hard to give the best they can to our pupils. They make it a joy to come into work each day and I will miss this extended family. I have also been surrounded by a leadership team who saw my vision and worked with me to make it happen. I know at times it has not been easy, but even through the tough times we’ve always managed to see the positives and keep a smile on our faces. They truly are making a difference.

Upon our return from the half term break, Sam Atkinson from Dame Janet Academy will be supporting the school as an Executive Headteacher with Kathleen Davis from Napier Community Primary Academy in Gillingham taking over as interim headteacher. They will both be positive additions to our already fantastic team and although I am sad to be leaving I am excited about the future for the school and look forward to its successes.

I wish the Drapers Mills family all the very best, I will miss you all!

  • End of term Good Byes!

    Wed 18 May 2022

Unfortunately, as we come to the end of a school term we often have to say a few goodbyes. This term is no exception and it is with huge regret that we will be saying farewell to some of our fantastic staff members. Sadly, two of our amazing Teaching Assistants, Miss Moore (year 4) and Mrs Manclark (year 1) are leaving for pastures new. Mrs Manclark will be leaving on Friday (20th May) and Miss Moore will be the week after (26th May).

I am sure you will join me in thanking them for all the hard work and commitment they have given to Drapers Mills Primary Academy and for everything they have done for the school and its pupils in their time with us. Between them both, they have worked at the school for over 26 years!!! Their contribution to our school's recent successes cannot be measured.

We are losing good friends and we wish them all the very best for the future and they will be sorely missed.

  • Closure of Year 5 classes

    Tue 29 Mar 2022

Unfortunately, due to a spike in the number of positive Covid cases in school and an increasing level of staff absence - including both of our year 5 teachers - I have made the extremely difficult decision to close both of the year 5 classes. Pupils in Tsang and Sachar classes are therefore being asked to stay away from school for the remainder of the week, returning after the Easter Holidays on Tuesday 19th April.

Work will be set online for the children to complete whilst they are not at school over the next few days. A further communication will be sent to explain how the children can access this.

I appreciate and regret the inconvenience this may cause and hope you understand this decision has not been made lightly.

    Yours sincerely

    Mr J Manclark

    Thu 16 Dec 2021

    Dear parents / carers

This is a reminder that tomorrow is the last day of term.

Parents are welcome to collect their children from school early tomorrow after their lunch at 1.30pm. The two side gates to the school will be open between 1.30 and 1.45 to allow parents to collect their children.

Children who cannot be collected at 1.30 can stay in school and be collected at the normal time of 3.15pm.

The children will return back to school after the Christmas holidays on Tuesday 4th January.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.

  • Farewells and new staff arrangements

    Mon 06 Dec 2021

    Dear parents / carers.

Often, as we come to the end of a school term we have to say a few goodbyes. Unfortunately, this term is no exception and it is with huge regret that we will be saying farewell to a number of our fantastic staff members. Miss Barrett (year 3 teacher), Mrs Kirkpatrick (year 3 teacher) and Miss Ellison (teaching assistant) will all be leaving us for pastures new at the end of this term.

I am sure you will join me in thanking them for all the hard work and commitment they have given to Drapers Mills Primary Academy and for everything they have done for the school in their time with us. They have all been with us for a number of years (Miss Barrett has been with the school since 2002 !!!) and their contribution to our school's recent successes cannot be measured.

We are losing good friends and we wish them all the very best for the future and they will be sorely missed.

This will mean that as from January there will be some changes to the adults teaching in some of the classes. These have been highlighted below: -

Reception: Mrs Baker (Carle) and Mrs Urban (Murphy)

Year 1: Mrs Feuillatre (Freedman) and Mrs Olive (Donaldson)

Year 2: Mrs Bratch (Butterworth) and Mrs Taylor (Andreae)

Year 3: Mrs Hurley & Miss Pope (Browne) and Miss Moore (Blyton)

Year 4: Mr Chantler (Allsburg) and Mrs Marks (Baddiel)

Year 5: Mrs Osborne (Tsang) and Ms Rees (Sachar)

Year 6: Mrs Jennings-Payne (Rowling) and Miss Lehan (Cowell)

The children will be meeting their new teachers before they break up for the Christmas holidays.
