Welcome back to school and a very Happy and Safe New Year 2021!
We are going to have such an exciting time! This term we will be learning about ‘People who help us’. This is our topic web showing you some of the things we might be doing as we move through the term. We will start our topic learning about doctors and paramedics through the stories Zog the Dragon & Zog the Flying Doctor. We will continue learning about the jobs of firefighters and police officers through non-fiction books and video clips. The term will end with the celebrations of the Chinese New Years.
So far this term we have been exploring people who help us. We have found out lots of facts and information about doctors, nurses, dentists and firefighters. Moving our learning forward, we have learned about the police force and how they keep us safe.

This week our focus was on doctors, nurses, paramedics and vets. The children learned to use new vocabulary through their play and wrote all the labels for our displays using their phonics knowledge!
The children worked cooperatively to create a hospital in our role play area. They painted and cut signs to help our patients find their way. They made their own doctor and nurse hats and added an X-ray department with a large scale human skeleton!
Can you remember the names of these objects?
Watch the clip and try to answer the questions!

This term we are learning all about people who help us. We started this topic by reading the popular Julia Donaldson book called ‘ZOG’ who is a dragon and is repeatedly helped by a character called Princess Pearl. Princess Pearl decides that she wants to be a doctor and help others in need so we have decided to explore in more detail ‘nurses, doctors and paramedics.
We have used Jack Frost story to explore some aspects of the winter season. We made some fun ice experiments using salt, paint and water to make the ice melt! We also left some water freeze overnight in our outdoor area and have enjoyed rescuing all the animals trapped in the ice!
The children created some fabulous winter art to decorate our classroom! They made icicles for our class winter tree using milk bottles, pipe cleaners and beads! They painted pictures of melted snowmen and used snow dough to design beautiful winter sculptures.
