Year 1 Phonics screening 2018

 

We are required to administer a phonics screening check to children in year 1.

The 2019 check will take place in the week beginning Monday 11th June 2019.

Year 1 Information

 

Welcome to the Year 1 information page. Here you will find useful information about our year group. Click on the university names above to see all the learning and class information for your child. 

 

PE/Games

Your child will need a full PE kit on Mondays and Wednesdays. This should consist of: T-Shirt, shorts, plimsolls or sports shoes. Please also include a jumper and jogging bottoms for colder weather.

EducationCity is a great educational website that you can use at home to support your child's schoolwork. All homework set on Education City matches what your child has been learning in school. This provides the opportunity to continue their learning in the evenings, weekends and over the holidays to combat holiday learning loss. Lots of the activities are now tablet friendly.

Phonics

This year there will be a huge focus on phonics.

What is phonics?

Words are made up from small units of sound called phonemes. Phonics teaches children to be able to listen carefully and identify the phonemes that make up each word. This helps children to learn to read words and to spell words.
