Ha Ha Me Hearties!

Our time together is almost at its end...

Never before has I sailed in a vessel of such wondrousness. Ye shipmates have made me proud again this week and when I get back to shore, I'll tell Mrs Squawkeyvoise about all our adventures on the sea of learning!!

The week started with our Cap'n Mr Manclark talking to us all 'bout the school values, and boy did you show 'em...

Read more from ye olde teachers Mr A and Mrs J.

Until next time shipmates, keep searching for the perfect sunset!

Yaaaarrrr!!

As Cap'n Squarkeyvoise said, the week started with an assembly about the school values from Mr Manclark and we can proudly and gladly report that these have been displayed to epic proportions in a week full of challenge and change...

R Respect - Respecting new and old teachers when meeting new (and old) year 6 teachers

               - Respecting each others ideas and space when organising and presenting our Learning

                 Together Afternoon. (LTA)

E Endeavour - Sticking to the task and striving to be the best when planning, preparing and presenting LTA

F Fairness - Letting each other display your passions and supporting each other to do it.

L Leadership - Grasping the challenge of the week. Choosing learning that has interested you, writing

speeches, creating resources for it and then putting yourselves forward to present it to the

                      parents.

E Enjoyment - The afternoon of the LTA was a great success - and super enjoyable!! Seeing parents and

carers interact with you coding on computers, Parrots teaching techniques and increasing

understanding of a range of the PE equipment, tackling timed Ninja Maths Master

challenges, creating beautiful and interesting art, exploring our 'Drapers Mills Pamphlets' and

discussing how school has changed over the years, discovering some of the history of early

computer games. the opportunities provided by the pond area, and participating in the

inaugural Trim Trail Challenge - loved by parents and Parrots alike. ENJOYMENT MAX!!!!

C Contribution - Every child contributed to making the transition morning a great success with positivity,

enthusiasm and focus. (Plus a slight tinge of year 6 anxiety!)

                       Read all of the above to see how you all demonstrated C O N T R I B U T I O N for our LTA

T Trust - The adults in Parrots class trusted you to present a magnificent LTA and you did not disappoint.

WE ARE ALL IMMENSLY PROUD OF PARROTS FOR APPLYING THE SCHOOL VALUES TO MAKE THIS WEEK A SUPER SUCCESS - Well done one and all!!

LEARNING LETTER - TERM FIVE ISSUE TWO

Picture 1

Captain Ivor Skwarkeevoys says...

Shakespeare was actually a friend of mine!

We met in London in 1603, the year the first queen Elizabeth died.

He wrote Macbeth using a quill made from a feather from my tail and when he was short of an idea or two he would ask me to pop onto his shoulder and tell him stories I had heard from my travels around the world...

A fine fellow indeed...

St Peter's Church - A historical and geographical walk! 1 We walked...We talked...We learnt

On Friday morning we had the opportunity to explore St Peter's Church and graveyard.

We looked for the tombstone of Richard Joy, a local folk hero and infamous character known for his strength, kindness and...smuggling!

He was born in St Lawrence Ramsgate in 1675 and led a life full of adventure and misadventure!!

TERM THREE

  • During this term we will learn about rationing and the impact of war on children and civilians.
  • We will investigate some of the reasons that World War II occurred and explore and research how Thanet and Kent played a major role in the the conflict... from the 'little ships' and Dunkirk to the Battle of Britain.
  • We will develop and deepen our understanding of Europe and the countries within it and how borders have changed through conflict and peace.
  • We will also get a first hand experience of how life may have been for families during WWII when we take a trip down the Ramsgate tunnels...
  • We shall also be exploring the war through the use of some fantastic texts including - Rose Blanche by R. Innocenti and I. McEwan, The Prisoner by James Riordan and Kingdom by the Sea by Robert Westhall.

Shall we take a trip down memory lane? Here are some photos showing some of the fabulous things we have already investigated, written, achieved and of course ENJOYED since becoming year 5ers!!

THE MORE THAT YOU READ,

THE MORE YOU WILL KNOW,

THE MORE THAT YOU LEARN,

THE MORE PLACES YOU'LL GO!

Dr Seuss

Hello to all the parents, carers and adults of Parrot's class,

Can I firstly say that after just a day with your wonderful children I know it is going to be a great year for Parrots. They are polite, wonderfully kind and filled with an eagerness to learn. I have already seen some lovely illustrations of holidays and favourite books, heard children talk enthusiastically about their time at Drapers Mills and their time off from Drapers Mills! ...and read some lovely 'Postcards' detailing the fun and presents they had over the Christmas break.

I really look forward to meeting you all over the next few weeks and if you have anything you wish to discuss with me the new end of day arrangements make this easy...so please come and have a chat at the door and introduce yourself.

Can't wait to get rolling along an exciting learning journey with a wonderful class...

We will keep you updated!

Real stories of evacuation, families and children's experiences of WWII...

Week beginning 16th November 2015

This week we had a special Take one Composer day on Friday in which we completed work linked to the short animation called the Piano.  The animation is based on a Grandfather playing the piano and having Flashbacks to different periods of his life from a small boy with a hobby horse to going to war through to having a wife and family of his own.

Week Beginning 9th November 2015

Its been a busy week in Parrots Class.  We have taken part in a remembrance day assembly having first investigated some of the people who have fought in many wars including the First and Second World War.   Did you know that the youngest boy to sign up for WWI was 12 years old?  He was sent home after 6 weeks of service when his true age was discovered.

We have also begun our rehearsals for the years 5 and 6 Christmas nativity.  The production will be ready for an audience by the end of term.

As a reward for winning the Attendance Trophy again, we had some time with the Speed Stacking cups. Some of the class are already better than Mr. Barnes, who's been a Speed Stacker for nearly 10 years! Some of the children also decided to see how high we could build a wall of cups. They worked as a team and managed to build it right up to the ceiling! Great teamwork, Parrots!

Welcome to Year 5!

The new Parrot class children have all settled in well after their summer break. Mr Barnes and Mrs Jeavons are looking forward to a fun-filled year of learning.

During our first two days back at school, we all contributed to a Class Contract that we have all signed to say we agree with the promises. What do you think of our contract?

Please could all parents return the photograph permission forms as soon as possible. This is so that we can use photos of the children enjoying their learning. Thank you!
